IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING PORTAGE COUNTY
BAR ASSOCIATION NOTARY PUBLIC
INITIAL APPLICATIONS, RENEWALS AND TESTS
Senate Bill 263 took effect March 20, 2019 giving the Secretary of State the sole authority to govern notary publics in Ohio effective September 20, 2019.
As of September 19, 2019, applications to become a notary public, to renew a current notary public certification, for recording notary public certifications, lodging of complaints, and taking disciplinary action against notary publics will be governed exclusively through the Office of the Ohio Secretary of State. Accordingly, the Portage County Bar Association's Notary Commission will cease operation after that date.
The Portage County Bar Association announces the following final processing dates after which it will not accept notary applications and notary renewal applications:
Initial application for Notary Public commission: August 2, 2019
Notary Public Renewal application submission: August 28, 2019
Final Portage County Notary Public testing dates:
Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 9 a.m.
Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 3 p.m.
If you are unable to meet any of the above Portage County deadlines, you will need to contact the Ohio Secretary of State at 614-644-4559 for processing of notary public initial applications, renewals or testing information. You will also need to contact the Ohio Secretary of State after September 20, 2019 for all matters relating to your notary public commission.
